Pharmacy Technicians under the supervision of the Pharmacist and or Technical Manager prepares, dispenses and distributes medications in the hospital.  These tasks include being responsible for medication order entry, performing final checks of prescriptions prior to release to the units and being able to efficiently and effectively organize daily workflow. Pharmacy Technicians function as members of a departmental team and work collaboratively within the team to ensure efficient and effective medication delivery.  Pharmacy Technicians will always work within their scope of practice as set out within the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) Model Standards of Practice for Canadian Pharmacy Technicians, which have been adopted by the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Two (2) year diploma of CCAPP-accredited Canadian Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Registered as a Regulated Pharmacy Technician (R.Ph.T.) with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP)
  • Depending on the Pharmacy Technician assignment, the successful candidate must either be sterile trained and certified, or must be willing and able to become sterile trained and certified within (3) months. This training will be supported by the hospital.
  • One (1) year recent experience working in a hospital pharmacy 
  • Experience using computerized pharmacy system(s), Microsoft Word, Excel      and Outlook 
  • Computer skills (Hospital Information System(s), Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Prioritization and time management
  • Work well in a team as well as independently 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail 
  • Problem solving/Critical thinking
  • Ability to Multitask
  • Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
