Registered Nurses practice as members of a multi-disciplinary team in accordance with the Public Hospitals Act, the Regulated Health Professions Act, the Nursing Act, and the Standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). In keeping with the Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values, and policies and procedures, RN’s provide professional nursing care to patients. The Clinical Resource & Hospital Charge Nurse supports in a leadership capacity, the provision of effective and efficient delivery of patient care to patients on a 24-hour basis in collaboration with the Directors Clinical Programs. The incumbent acts as a designate on behalf of administration during assigned shifts and provides management direction as designated, and facilitates and is accountable for appropriate bed utilization and staff resourcing.  The Clinical Resource & Hospital Charge Nurse functions as an expert practitioner who provides for the clinical needs of patients both directly and indirectly and acts as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current certificate of competence as Registered Nurse (RN) from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • B.Sc.N. or RN with equivalent preparation as a minimum in: Trends and Issues in Health Care; Data Analysis; Leadership Theories and Practices; Nursing Science, Theories and Research; Family Dynamics in Nursing Practice; Ethical Frameworks for Decision Making; Theories and Elements for Patient Teaching
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Minimum of five years progressive and current experience in Emergency/ICU setting with demonstrated high level of performance
  • Experience in a key leadership role in related nursing field with demonstrated high levels of performance 
  • Recent experience and ability in cardiac rhythm interpretation, pressure monitoring, airway management and ventilator care
  • Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient/family centered care
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well in critical and high stress situations
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing care planning process
  • Demonstrated ability in planning patient discharges in collaboration with members of the health care team
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions 
  • In-depth knowledge of available community resources
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated teaching and mentoring skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting professional learning in nursing
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Ability to promote a healthy work environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the College of Nurses standards of practice
  • Embodies the LEAN ideology by actively and continually seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism preferred (French/English)
